2 more NL editors leave staff | Monday, April 24, 10:40 a.m. |
Two more Northern Light editors have left their positions on staff, this time by resignation.
Sports Editor Sarah Abbott and Photography Editor Andre Triplett submitted letters of resignation to school officials Friday.
Abbott and Triplett were two of five editors who signed an April 6 letter to administration expressing why the editorial staff felt they could not continue producing the newspaper under administration's demands for censorship.
Editor-in-Chief Hope Bahr and News Editor Chuck Bahr were dismissed from their positions Thursday, April 6. The status of the fifth editor who signed the letter, Opinion Editor David Kingsbury, was still unknown as of today. Kingsbury was out of the Twin Cities area for a school engagement and could not be reached for comment.
Abbott and Triplett chose to resign after it became apparent school officials were not going to initiate disciplinary action against them, but rather were going to allow them to retain their titles despite them not fulfilling their editorial duties.
Nlnews.org believes school officials decided not to dismiss the three remaining editors after it became apparent such action could garner further negative publicity for the school.
Meanwhile, the newspaper's interim staff is set to come out with a final issue tomorrow, April 25. Nlnews.org learned that in addition to Variety Editor Jodi Krause acting as interim editor-in-chief, staff writer Stephanie Perry was given charge of news and staff writer Jamaal Gilbert of sports. It is still unknown who was given charge of opinion, if anyone.
