Nlnews.org is a privately owned website and is not affiliated with North Central University. The purpose of the website is to unofficially represent the university's student newspaper, The Northern Light.

The site was launched Feb. 28, 2006, and received the university's blessing until March 31, 2006, when administration revoked its support on the grounds that the site posed a financial and public relations risk to the university. Nlnews.org proprietors chose to continue the website in an unofficial status.
