Northern Light editors dismissed after refusing to allow admin censorship |
Editors were told they would face disciplinary action unless they agreed to let administration remove anything in the newspaper that would "shed North Central in a negative light" |
The editorial staff of The Northern Light chose unanimously Tuesday, April 4, to stop producing the newspaper rather than give in to demands for censorship by the university. Administration responded by dismissing the editor-in-chief and news editor from their positions on staff, effective Thursday, April 6. Our hearts are grieved because we do not believe we can obey your demands without violating the principles that we hold from Scripture. 4/20: Please note that a revised version of the editorial "President's prereading request is last straw in a 'reign of fear'" has replaced the orginal version as of 11:28 a.m. today. The author reconsidered some of his words and felt some statements should be rephrased out of fairness to President Anderson. If you had read the editorial between 2:35 p.m. 4/19 and 11:28 a.m. 4/20, please read it again in its revised form. Thank you.
